Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

Linking Parents and Community Members to the West End Participating School Districts
“A Partnership Dedicated to Education”

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) would like to take this opportunity to make you aware as parents and teachers of children with special needs that CAC is a place where you can continue to grow in your learning of Special Education. We realize how important your children are to you and that you have the dreams of a bright future for them. We also realize how challenging your days can be whether at home or in the classroom. We are all aware that our children learn more and have greater opportunity for a bright future when parents, school staff, and the community work together as guardians of the future.

The CAC is formed to serve as a liaison between the local school Board of Education and the community. We invite you to become involved in improving the quality of education and service to our children, our parents, and school staff on behalf of our students with disabilities.

The Community Advisory Committee Members

West End SELPA

The West End Special Education Local Plan Area (WESELPA) provides educational services designated to complement, coordinate, and facilitate the programs operated on a cooperative basis between participating local school districts: Alta Loma, Central, Chaffey Joint Union, Chino Valley Unified, Cucamonga, Etiwanda, Mt. Baldy Joint, Mountain View, Ontario-Montclair, Upland Unified and San Bernardino County Programs (SBCSS-West End). Through cooperative use of SELPA and district resources, special education programs in the West End of San Bernardino County are able to provide effective and high quality services to children with special needs and their parents.

The West End SELPA schedules meetings of organizational committees structured to provide group direction for the programs and services delivered to children with disabilities. The SELPA acknowledges the extreme importance of establishing procedures to involve parents/guardians, teachers, and committee members in the local special education planning process. The Community Advisory Committee advises the Program Advisory Committee and acts as a liaison between the SELPA Administrator and the community.

What is the Community Advisory Committee?

The CAC is a group of parents, educators, and community members, which is established in accordance with Education Code 56190. Members are nominated and appointed by their district’s school board for a two-year term of office.

The mission of the Committee shall be to encourage cooperative communication between parents, students, and educators: to provide information and resources to families and educators about available services, community groups, community activities and parent support groups: to advise the SELPA Administrator and LEA Directors, Superintendents’ Council or member Boards regarding program development, services and content of the Local Plan by promoting positive educational system change and improvements: promote the importance of regular school attendance: ensure the importance of community awareness activities as well as support positive political action on behalf of students with disabilities. The ultimate mission is to ensure students with disabilities pursue their hopes and dreams to the full extent of their individual talents and capabilities as well as have equal access to all appropriate services.
