West Heritage Elementary School

Programs

Newspaper/student council: Fourth and fifth graders who are elected by peers and teachers will organize school events, fundraisers, and service projects. A newspaper staff will offer leadership through developing a trimester newspaper. Students will interview, research, and develop content for a variety of sections in the paper.

After-school intervention: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:40 - 3:40 p.m. This intervention time is for students who have been invited to the grade-level intervention class, where they will receive extra help in specific skill areas.

Band: Fifth graders who own or rent an instrument can receive music theory and instruction on a weekly basis. This is a great foundation before enrolling in band at the middle school. Students must make up classwork when they are at practice. Please contact your child’s teacher to learn more.

Basketball/ track: Towards the end of the year, fifth grade boys and girls can tryout and compete in a tournament or track meet against other Etiwanda schools.

Chorus/Musical: Fourth and fifth graders can join the chorus which performs a Christmas concert at our school and at Knott’s Berry Farm.

G.A.T.E.: Fourth and Fifth graders who are classified as “gifted” are challenged through an after school program that meets on Thursdays. Throughout the year, units will be organized and taught during a four week session. Each unit will challenge students in subjects found in electives.
